UPDATE: 3 Dead In Pa. Municipal Building Shooting; Gunman ID'd

SAYLORSBURG., Pa., (CBS) – Authorities say three people are dead after a shooting during a meeting at a municipal building in Monroe County Monday night.

The incident happened at about 7:15 p.m. at the municipal building located on Anchorage Road in Ross Township.

Authorities identified the suspect as 59-year-old Rockne Warren Newell, of Saylorsburg.

Police say Newell approached the building armed with a long gun, and began firing into the building through the windows.

He continued firing as he entered and made his way through the building, authorities say.  About 15 to 18 people, including members of the Township Supervisors council and residents, were attending the meeting inside.

According to police, at some point Newell exited the building and returned to the parking lot, where he retrieved a handgun from his vehicle.

Authorities say Newell entered the building again, firing his weapon.  He was tackled by two individuals and restrained until he was placed into police custody.

According to police, two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

A victim was airlifted to St Luke's University Hospital in Bethlehem, where he was later pronounced dead.

A woman was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest in Allentown. Her condition is unknown at this time.

A man suffered a graze wound to head and is listed in good condition.

Another victim was taken to the hospital for stress-induced illness.

Authorities confirm Newell was treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound and released into police custody.  His injury is under investigation.

The motive remains unclear at this time.

According to the township's website, a meeting of the Board of Supervisors is held on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
