BLOG: Valentine's Day Weather

By Kate Bilo

Well, it's Valentine's Day and our much-anticipated warming trend has begun! We will hit one small stumbling block in the form of a cold front passage this afternoon, but for all intents and purposes, this week will be dry, sunny, and getting increasingly warmer!

Temperatures this morning stayed in the middle 40's in most locations, so I think with sunshine, our highs today may try to climb even higher than originally thought - it's not out of the question that a few spots in Delaware and down the Jersey shore could check in with temperature readings in the low 60's. In Philadelphia, it's a good bet that we'll reach or even top the middle 50's before a cold front blasts through this afternoon with some changes. The front is moisture-starved, so although we can't rule out a stray sprinkle here or there, the real impact will be in the form of strong, gusty winds. This afternoon and evening, expect winds to gust over 40 mph across most of the area, and this has prompted a Wind Advisory which begins at noon and lasts until 1 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Behind the front, winds will gradually diminish by tomorrow morning, but a little bit of cooler air will be allowed to advect into the region, causing a noticeable drop in the high temperature - in fact, some spots tomorrow could be as much as twenty degrees colder than today! However, it will be sunny and dry, still breezy, with temperatures right around 40.

And then the warmth comes back and it makes an impressive push through Friday. Back to the low 50s Wednesday, sunny and gorgeous with a high near 60 on Thursday, and then Friday will be the warmest of all as a southwesterly flow really takes hold - temperatures should be in the low to middle 60s with clouds and sunshine. A cold front will come through Friday night and bring some cooler weather for the weekend, but in the meantime, enjoy this nice little taste of SPRING!
