For some, being crafty is just part of who they are, and for others, it may be a new interest. Whether you are a seasoned artist or just someone looking for a new hobby, or way to spend a Saturday there are plenty of classes available in the Philly area.  Painting, ceramics, sewing we got you covered. Here are the top 5 crafty classes in the Philadelphia area.

You can learn to sew.  If this is something you did not have the opportunity to ever learn, don't worry if you have no skills. The instructors are patient and enjoyed by many customers. Butchers' offers both adult and youth classes, and has multiple levels for advanced sewers who want to learn new skills. Classes are about 3 hours and meet once a week for 4 weeks. Costs are just under $300. If you aren't ready for this type of commitment, they also have workshops, which are one- time events. They offer embroidery, scarf and bra making as well as many other types of workshops for a one day 3 hour class for $80.

Maybe you're interested in trying your hand at making pottery. Classes run most of the year and begin and end with the seasons lasting 6-10 weeks depending on the class you select. Prices range from $210-$350 and include all the materials you need.  Customers who have tried the class's rave that they are very are fun and laid back. You can stop in, or take a private workshop with 5 friends minimum; cost is $30 a person. Call ahead to reserve this. The studio is described as bright, airy and relaxing (and pet friendly if you want to make Paw prints from clay). They also offer jewelry making from a selection of beautiful pieces of glass that are fused together.

This crafty art center has been in Philadelphia for almost 50 years and is committed to a full artistic experience for students. Workshops and classes are happening year round for members in photography, dance, writing and visual arts. Just a few of the unique options are stained glass, 3D animation, and sewing.  Classes range from long 10 week courses to short one day workshops. Great options for homeschoolers as well, since they are open all day during the week, and many of their courses teach practical skills.
