Bensalem Suspends Operation Of A Volunteer Fire Company
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) - Bensalem Township has suspended the operations of one of its six volunteer fire companies, claiming problems with the leadership of the company.
Bensalem officials say the decision to suspend the operations of the Union Fire Company, on State Road, was the culmination of numerous incidents that have occurred over the past twelve to eighteen months.
Bensalem public safety director Fred Harran says the leadership of the fire company had failed to deal with administrative and operational issues, and he says that months of trying to work it out didn't work.
"But it came to the point where I felt that it jeopardized the safety of the people in our community and that I just could not have… I met with the other five fire chiefs last week and they concurred with me."
Harran refused to talk publicly about some of the issues, calling them "personnel matters." He says the suspension will not impact public safety. Other companies have already been reassigned to provide coverage.
