Bennie Logan Out For Sunday Night Football Vs. Cowboys

By Kevin McGuire

On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Eagles will be tasked with attempting to slow down the NFL’s leading rusher, rookie Ezekiel Elliott, without one of their starting defensive tackles. Bennie Logan has been ruled out for the NFC East showdown for first place against the Dallas Cowboys after missing practices all week due to a groin injury.

Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz may feel good about his defensive line, but without Logan things may not be so easy against one of the best offensive lines in the league. Stepping in Logan’s place will be Beau Allen, who stepped in to replace Logan last Sunday against Minnesota once Logan was forced to leave with his groin injury (Logan entered last week's game listed as questionable).

The Eagles made a move this week to add some depth on the defensive line with the expectation that Logan would not be available. Taylor Hart was picked up off waivers and joined the team this week. Unfortunately, Hart injured his ankle in practice this week and is now listed as questionable for this weekend’s big game. It is not likely Hart would have seen much playing time Sunday night anyway, but having another banged up player on the defensive line is not ideal against the Cowboys.

The only other player popping up on the Eagles injury report this week is linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, who has been ruled out due to a hamstring. Grugier-Hill, a rookie out of Eastern Illinois, has been slated as the backup linebacker to Mychal Kendricks.

The Cowboys will continue to run the offense through rookie quarterback Dak Prescott. With a rookie quarterback, the Eagles would like to try and bring pressure on the defensive line, which now becomes more challenging without Logan’s services. Prescott has been the starter for the Cowboys all season while veteran Tony Romo continues to work his way back to being in game shape following his latest back injury. Romo did not practice with the team on Wednesday but was able to join in limited activity on Thursday. The Cowboys were previously reported to be hoping Romo could be back and available by this week, but with Prescott playing so well the urgency in rushing Romo back has been non-existent. Romo has been officially ruled out for this weekend.

Romo is most likely not available this weekend, even if Prescott should happen to struggle, but his status will be worth paying close attention to as he inches closer and closer to being healthy enough to play.
