Approaching 100° In The Shade, And Yet Philadelphians Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Even a heat wave won't keep some people from their workouts.

When it comes to working out, these folks along Kelly Drive were undeterred by the heat:

"I'm freakin' crazy!  I'm out of my mind," admitted one man.

"I'm just trying to get back in shape," said another.

"Just trying to stay fit," said yet another.

Added one woman: "We can eat more if we take a 10-mile bike ride, so it's all about the food."

.

They do admit, however, a workout in the heat is difficult:

(Kuznits:)  "What's the most challenging part about running in this weather?"

(Man:)  "Breathing through the thick humidity air."

(Kuznits:)  "But you do it anyway."

(Man:) "Exactly! Trying to stay in shape!"

So why do they do it?

"We just love to work out," said one man.  "We're getting old and we don't want to get old gracefully."

What motivates people to continue the workout?

"Getting home! Just getting back," another man said.   "You go one way and you gotta go back the same distance."
