Anything Goes At Upcoming Cake Competition In Philly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A cake competition showcasing the area's most creative pastry chefs takes place Monday at the Loews Hotel, and those who attend get to eat cake until their heart's content while benefiting a good cause.
Celebrity pastry chef Ron Ben-Israel will be the head judge at Monday's 12th annual 'Let Them Eat Cake' competition.
"I'm expecting to have some incredible talent show up and also some amazing cakes to eat," he tells KYW Newsradio.
Organizer Harry Giordano with City of Hope explains it's a pretty elaborate production:
"The event opens at 6pm, but we're there at 9am and the pastry chefs load in all day long; and it takes a few hours to assemble each cake."
Ben-Israel says he's thrilled to contribute to this benefit for City of Hope:
"And we are all effected by life-threatening diseases, starting with cancer which is so prevalent in so many ways and every family is effected by it, including my own."
And Giordano says City Hope not only deals with cancer:
"We're responsible for synthetic human insulin, we're one of the pioneers for bone marrow transplants."
