Man shot, killed by Abington police in alleged hostage situation at Glenside, Pennsylvania, apartment complex

A man was shot and killed by police at an apartment complex in Glenside, Pennsylvania, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Around 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Abington Township police were called for a domestic disturbance in the 2300 block of Rosemore Avenue. Chopper 3 showed several uniformed officers around the Rosemore Gardens Apartments.

According to a press release from the DA's office, police entered an apartment. The DA's office said that officers opened fire, striking a man. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

In a press conference, Montgomery County officials described the incident as a hostage rescue situation that involved a young woman, her child and her boyfriend.

According to police, the child was the one who called 911. Once police arrived, they heard at least one gunshot and a woman screaming. They broke down the door and, once inside, two officers shot at the suspect.

"She was extraordinary. This young child who was on scene, almost like an adult in the way she handled things, and so poised in the way she relayed information," Abington Police Chief Patrick Molloy said.

According to officials, the officers involved followed proper protocol.

"When officers respond to these violent domestics and we believe a gunshot's fired and we have a screaming adult female victim in there, I believe the actions that they took there, putting themselves in danger, were heroic," Molloy said.

Police say none of the victims or officers were injured.

Authorities are not identifying the man or the police officers involved at this time. The two officers who fired their weapons are on administrative leave.

The police shooting remains under investigation by Montgomery County DA Kevin Steele and his office.
