5 Worst Sports Days Of The Year
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Phew. We made it. We've gotten passed the worst stretch in sports---the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, but more specifically, the days before and after the game. The day before and the two days after the MLB All-Star Game are the only three days of the calendar year where no major sports (NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA) take place. With that, we take a look at the five worst sports days of the year.
5. National Signing Day
The day when we keep tabs on where teenagers will play football. The ironic part is, none of it matters. You can have all the four-star recruits you want, but if they don't pan out what does it matter? With the addition of social media, this has to be the most over-hyped, over-blown, meaningless sports day of the year. Tell me the kid, who is a "four-star" recruit, who committed to my Alma mater. I'll tweet it.
4. The off-Sunday between the NFL Championship Games and the Super Bowl
Torture. It's Sunday and there's no football. One extra week of waiting for the Super Bowl---all we have left. While you can appreciate the wait if your hometown team is playing in the game, that likely isn't the case.
3. Christmas Day
You would think Christmas Day would rival Thanksgiving Day, but it doesn't even come close. It's a major let down every single year. Maybe this is simply because the NBA and the NHL aren't as entertaining as the NFL, but whatever the reason, sports on Christmas Day is always disappointing.
Side note: I have a feeling we might see LeBron James back in Miami on December 25th, 2014.
2. The day before the MLB All-Star Game
Previously mentioned, this is the first day of every year where there is zero major sports action, besides the Home Run Derby, which just makes things worse. At least on the day after the MLB All-Star Game we don't have to hear, "Back, back, back, back, back, back, back...back....back, back!"
1. The day after the Super Bowl
You wake up and realize, that's all she wrote. It's back to work on Monday and there's no more football until September. Unless you're celebrating a Super Bowl Championship, something we have never had the opportunity to do here in Philadelphia, post-Super Bowl Monday is as bad as it gets.
