35 Athletes From Pennsylvania Scheduled To Compete In 2012 Games

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nearly three dozen athletes who call Pennsylvania home are part of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

The Summer Games kick off in London on July 27.

Pennsylvania is tied for second place with New York for states with the most in London. There are 35 Olympians — 14 men and 21 women — who claim Pennsylvania as their home state.

Nine of the 16 women on the U.S. field hockey team, and two of the six women on the U.S. tennis team, hail from Pennsylvania. Women also will compete in women's soccer, rowing, volleyball, diving, cycling and track and field.

Of the 19 men from Pennsylvania on Team USA, the best-known is probably NBA star Kobe Bryant. He won a gold medal with the U.S. men's basketball team in 2008.
