30 Acres Along White Horse Pike Getting Townhomes, Shopping

CLEMENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- Work is underway to revive a long-vacant shopping center site in Clementon, NJ.
The Grants department store and Acme supermarket have long since left the 30-acre site, along the White Horse Pike.
"This property has been vacant now for about three decades," notes Camden County freeholder-director Lou Cappelli, who says plans call for 205 townhouses and some commercial properties on the site.
Speaking at a groundbreaking, developer Michael Fink of the company Leewood NJ (at lectern in photo below) says the townhouses will start at $170,000.

"There's tremendous opportunity for all kinds of people who otherwise couldn't own a piece of the American dream," he said. And he says the first phase of 49 houses should be finished by next summer.
Cappelli says he hopes other municipalities will follow Clementon's lead and begin developing vacant properties along the White Horse and Black Horse Pikes.
