Wyo. police release new info in case of decapitated man

CODY, Wyo. – The Park County Communications Center received word of a dismembered body on Jan. 9, and now the Sheriff’s Department is hoping that more information about the victim will help identify the man, reports CBS affiliate KGWN.

The body, discovered by a hunter in a rural area of northwestern Wyoming, was severely mutilated, with dismembered pieces of the victim found at the site. The head has yet to be recovered.

An autopsy report estimates the time of death to be Tuesday, Jan. 7. The exact cause of death is still under investigation.

A forensic pathologist reports the victim was approximately 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6 and weighed between 180 and 200 pounds. The victim was less than 35 years of age and appears to have been an agricultural or ranch worker. Authorities say the man was of "stocky" build and in good physical condition.

The victim was wearing a brown leather belt with a distinctive braided design and matching buckle.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is encouraged to call the Park County Sheriff’s Department at 307-527-8700.
