World Vision: Seeing True Holiday Spirit
The Early Show is joining forces with World Vision, the organization that helps children and families in need, to distribute $3 million in toys, clothing and other essentials to children in 15 cities across the country.
A core group of corporations are largely responsible for the gifts that are being distributed through World Vision's "Gift-in-Kind" program. But individuals may make a monetary contribution as well. If interested, visit www.worldvisiongifts.org or call 888-511-6511.
In addition to New York, here are the other cities in which distributions are occurring:
The following are a core group of corporations that have donated the gifts that will be distributed on The Early Show.
Hasbro (a variety of toys)
Scholastic books - (Clifford, the Red Dog toys and books)
Unilever - personal care items (kids' shampoo, toothbrushes, etc.)
Baden - sports balls (soccer, football)
Individuals can place an order from the World Vision Gift Catalog, which features 75 tax-deductible gifts that meet basic life needs such as clean water, nutritious food, clothing, education, and health care.
Here are some gift examples:
For Children in Need in the U.S.:
- Provide clothing for a homeless child in the U.S. ($25)
- Provide a backpack and school supplies for a child in the United
States ($20)
For Children in Need Internationally:
- Buy a dairy goat for a child-headed household in Africa ($50)
- Throw a birthday party for a former street child in Mexico ($30)
- Give boxes full of books, games, toys, etc. to boys or girls ($25)
World Vision serves the poor in nearly 100 countries and the United States.
