Woman Gives Birth To Huge Baby

An Egyptian woman gave birth to a baby weighing a huge 15 pounds 6 ounces on Thursday and the father said on Saturday he was still in shock.

"I'm not big and neither is his mother. The size was a surprise, we really didn't expect it," said Adel Abdel Razek, a technician on the Cairo metro system.

The baby was born two weeks premature at Cairo's Railway Hospital.

"We had to perform a Caesarean section. There was no way it could come out naturally," said Doctor Mohammed al-Said who delivered the baby.

Mrs. Abdel-Razeq, a housewife, says she can only explain the size as being God's will to compensate her for the loss of her first son, who died the day after his birth.

Her doctor says there is a history of diabetes in the Abdel-Razeq family which can sometimes lead to large babies.

"It was expected to be big, but not that big. I thought it would be between 5.5 and six kilograms, but I was shocked that it was seven," said al-Said. "This is the biggest thing we've seen,"

Mrs. Abdel-Razeq says her son's name will be Karim, an Arabic word which translates as generous.
