With A Spouse Like This...

Bob Dole has been given a one-way ticket to the family "woodshed."

The 1996 GOP presidential nominee and sworn foe of "erectile dysfunction" didn't need Viagra to raise some political eyebrows this week.

Dole appeared to cross his wife, Elizabeth, by telling The New York Times that he'd like to contribute money to the campaign of one her rivals for the 2000 GOP presidential nomination, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

The polls show Mrs. Dole running second to Texas Gov. George W. Bush in the GOP race and - as her husband was quick to point out to The Times - she's had trouble raising money.

Mrs. Dole, a two-time former Cabinet secretary and former American Red Cross president, said: "I told him I loved him. I told him he was in the woodshed."

She also said "I don't have a problem" with her husband possibly writing out a check to McCain's presidential campaign, noting McCain helped in Bob Dole's 1996 White House bid.
