Police received a report of an unattended infant boy inside a car in a parking lot in Libertyville, Ill. on the afternoon of June 22.
Upon arrival, officers reportedly found the 9-month-old boy crying and "sweating profusely" in the car. According to a police report obtained by the Sun-Times, the car was not running and only had the windows rolled down about an inch.
Jessica E. Hurley-Smith, 20, and Michael Cegers, 18, were observed by police exiting the Lover's Lane store and identified themselves to officers as the boy's parents, according to the police report. Police say they told them they left the boy in the car for 15 to 20 minutes while they went into the store.
The infant was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was treated and released in good condition, according to the Sun-Times.
Hurley-Smith, of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and Cegars, of Kenosha, Wis., are each charged with endangering the life or health of a child and were released on $1,500 bonds, police said.
