(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - The surviving Monkees won't attend Davy Jones' funeral today, Micky Dolenz says, because they don't want the focus on them when the family is trying to grieve.

Dolenz told Billboard that he , Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith are considering attending one of the memorials planned in New York and in England. Dolenz said they also may organize a memorial for Jones' friends in Los Angeles.

"My understanding is they (the family) want to avoid a media circus and...the family wants to keep it very, very low-key and very, very private," Dolenz said. "And you can imagine as soon as one or two or any of us were to show up, it would very quickly be degraded into something that I don't think his immediate family would want to deal with."

A private funeral is scheduled later today in Florida for the 66-year-old singer, who died of a massive heart attack in Martin County, Fla., on Feb. 29. TMZ is reporting that Jones' body will be cremated.

Dolenz said it's too early to think about whether the surviving Monkees will perform. He said over the years, Tork, Nesmith and he never worked as just a threesome. He said it was mostly himself, Tork and Jones who would work together, with Nesmith occasionally joining them.
