Who Loves N.Y.? Flav Reject Gets Own Show
The last time Tiffany "New York" Pollard put her heart on the line, she ended up crying hysterically and sticking her derrière in Flavor Flav's face.
She had just been told — for the second time — that the former Public Enemy hype man would chose another woman to be his girl.
"I'll piss on his grave," she said then. "I don't care! I'm great!"
It was clear that New York was invested in winning Flav's love in a way other girls on his "Bachlorette"-style reality dating show were not. On season one of "Flavor of Love," New York — as she was nick-named by Flav because she is from Utica, N.Y. — angered "Pumpkin" so much that she received a glob of Pumpkin's spit to the chin.
On season two, Flav brought New York, 25, back to be the self-described "head b---- in charge" and help Flav select the right girl. She didn't ingratiate herself to the fellow women that time, either.
"New York and Tiffany, they are the same woman, but you have to remember that New York was placed in a competitive position with 19 other women, so my head was in a different place … so I had to be catty, I had to get my point across," she told The ShowBuzz.
So New York has endured some pain, but at the end of season two, as the limo drove her away, she remained steadfast in her belief in true love.
"I will find a man that's truly for me," she said then. "That will give me everything and honor me and I will give him the same in return."
Now she says she has on the set of her custom-made reality show, "I Love New York."
"This guy that I am with right now, I'm never gonna let him go," she said.
The show features 20 men vying for New York's love while living in a lavish mansion. New York, the ruthless competitor, said choosing a man was even more difficult than fighting for one.
"It's tough to let these guys go. They came out to see me and to know me," she said. "It was hard on me to be on the other end of the spectrum."
By her side is her fiery mother, Michelle Patterson, or "Miss Michelle," who faked a terminal illness on "Flavor of Love" season two in an attempt to persuade New York to leave the house.
"She was there to help me find true love and put her two and three and four and five — 10 — cents in and help me find the right guy," New York said. "I know my mom is not going to bite her tongue for no one."
Patterson let Flav know just what she thought about him without regard for his fame or wealth. In season one, she showed nothing but disdain for Flav, and in season two she tore in to Flav, who she deemed totally unworthy of her daughter.
"I don't want my daughter here with you," she yelled at Flav when she arrived at his home, sending her daughter into tears.
"You know, I look at that part from season two, 'Flavor of Love,' and I still cringe. I can't believe my mom pushed him. Oh my gosh, anything could have happened! But that's my mom and she's not going to back down," New York told The ShowBuzz. "Much love to her."
New York said tension remains between her and Flav and she wishes that their relationship could be stronger, but as far as she's concerned her future is filled with possibilities. She's pursuing her acting career and is also designing her own jewelry line.
"I'm just kickin' back, having the time of my life," she said. "It's important for everyone to know that I was havin' the time of my life before 'Flavor of Love' season one, season two, before 'I Love New York.' I am the type of person that I do what's right for me."
