The 83-year-old Bulger is on trial in a racketeering indictment charging him with participating in 19 murders.

The defense opened Monday by calling former FBI supervisor Robert Fitzpatrick, who testified that Bulger denied being an informant, even though the FBI had a file filled with reports on information he had supposedly given agents on the Mafia and other criminals.

Bulger associates have testified that Bulger bribed up to six FBI agents with cash so he could get information on investigations and coming indictments. They also said he was an informant.

The defense plans to call several more agents to testify Wednesday.
