Where The Wild Things Are, In N.J.
Want to spend time "in the wild" without* giving up the comforts of home?
One place to do that is Six Flags Wild Safari in Jackson, N.J., where wild animals you'd normally find roaming free in Africa and elsewhere are roaming free in the shadows of Six Flags Great Adventure's roller coasters and other attractions.
There are some 1200 animals from six continents, representing 52 species, in Wild Safari, as The Early Show national correspondent Tracy Smith learned Thursday when she was shown around by William "Doc" Rives, the park's director and head veterinarian.
Entertainment Supervisor Dave Peranteau was also on hand.
Smith got close looks small animals such as monkeys, as well as large ones such as zebras, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, bears, a tiger, and deer.
Oh, and one of the monkeys had an "accident" on Smith, who took it in good humor.
Smith was told Wild Safari now offers $99 "VIP tours" in which participants get a hands-on feel for the safari, including feeding giraffes and petting a tiger.
