WOBURN, Mass. (CBS/AP) Former Wellesley College student Anna Tang, who admitted stabbing her ex-boyfriend in his dorm room at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been acquitted by a judge on grounds of insanity.

Tang was accused of sneaking into the M.I.T. dorm room of her ex, Wolf Styke, with three knives, and stabbing him as he slept in Oct. 2007. Styke received seven stab wounds but survived.

Tang admitted she did it but claimed she was legally insane at the time. She said she suffered from bipolar disorder and depression. Styke had broken off their relationship several weeks earlier.

Tang waived her right to a jury trial.

Judge Bruce Henry issued his verdict Wednesday, finding Tang not guilty of armed assault with attempt to murder, home invasion, and assault with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.
