Skin Cancer Web Sites
- American Academy of Dermatologists: Easy-to-understand information on skin cancer, including a self-examination guide and a database of certified dermatologists. In addition, the AAD offers extensive sun safety tips.
- Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center: This world-famous hospital's site takes a basic, nuts and bolts approach.
- The Skin Cancer Page: Guide to Internet Resources: Maintained by a researcher at the North of England Children's Cancer Research Unit, this site offers an international perspective on skin cancer and vast number of links.
- The Skin Cancer Foundation: Tips on protecting children from skin sun damage, as well as an extensive section on selecting and using sunscreens.
General Cancer Web Sites
- American College of Physicians Home Care Guide for Advanced Cancer: This site is for family, friends, and hospice workers caring for people with advanced cancer, when quality of life is the primary goal. Tender and informative, it provides sections on care giving, cancer pain, respite care, and grieving.
- American Cancer Society:
Searchable database with detailed information on just about all aspects of cancer. - American Institute for Cancer Research: Nutrition-related information, including recipes. Also offers newsletter articles, research news, free publications, and a nutrition hotline.
- American Self-Help Clearinghouse: You can search by keyword or topic to get information on various types of support groups. Information about financial assistance, newsgroups and products is also available.
- Anti-Cancer Foundation: Helpful and practical information, including coping with hair loss, relaxation, meeting the challenge of recurrent cancer, and understanding and controlling cancer pain.
- Cancer News on the Net: Edited by a doctor, this sitallows you to register for e-mail news. A good source of links to other medical information sites and cancer support groups.
- CenterWatch: Clinical Trials Listing Service: The definitive place to go for information about clinical trials, including complete listings of current trials by disease. If you are interested in becoming part of a clinical trial, CenterWatch has a service that asks your vital information, and will then e-mail you if any new trials come up for which you would be eligible.
- Corporate Angel Network: A not-for-profit organization, the Corporate Angel Network provides free nationwide air transportation to and from treatment centers for cancer patients. Applications are available at the site.
- Healthgate: News, searchable database leading to lots of general information, resources and related articles. You can look up information on 295 diagnostic procedures. Some databases are for a fee, but you can get quite a bit of information free.
- Health Finder: The U.S. government's consumer health information web site offers cancer information and links to agencies and other health websites Web sites, both general and specific.
- National Cancer Institute: The NCI homepage offers information for patients, the general public and the media on general cancer news and issues.
- National Cancer Institute CancerNet: Detailed information for patients and professionals. Get the latest from the NCI on treatments, news, detection and prevention, supportive care and clinical trials. The database is searchable by topic or disease, leading to NCI reports and articles.
- National Foundation for Cancer Research: Information on new discoveries and on 22 specific cancers.
