Washington's Final Goodbye

Thousands gathered on the streets of Washington Saturday evening to say a final goodbye to Sen. Ted Kennedy before his burial in Arlington National Cemetery.
Hundreds of present and past congressional staff members, some in suits and some in t-shirts more apropos for a muggy Saturday, lined up on the steps of the Capitol building to honor the senator. They sang "America the Beautiful" as the procession to Kennedy's funeral drove by and then spontaneously began to sing "God Bless America."
There were thousands more there, though, who probably had never met Kennedy. They waved signs, cheered and thanked the senator as the procession drove by, before Kennedy reached his final resting place.
