Warrant singer Jani Lane dead
(CBS) Former Warrant singer Jani Lane was found dead in a hotel in the Los Angeles area Thursday night. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lane had a history of arrests related to alcohol, with arrests in 2009 and 2010.
Lane was Warrant's lead singer during its most successful period. The band had two double-platinum albums, its debut, "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich" and its follow-up, "Cherry Pie."
Warrant had several high-charting songs on Billboard's Hot 100 that were written by Lane, including the No. 2 "Heaven" and the top 10 "Cherry Pie."
Lane, born John Kennedy Oswald in 1964, was in and out of Warrant over the years. The last album on which he appeared with the band was "Under the Influence," an album of mostly cover songs that came out in 2001.
Outside Warrant, Lane appeared on VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club 2" in 2005 and was toured with the band Great White in 2010, filling in for an ill Jack Russell.
Condolences for the singer have been coming through the Internet. Bret Michaels of Poison and also a friend of Lane's, tweeted, "We'd like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Jani Lane regarding their loss. Respectfully, Bret and all at MEGI"
According to TMZ, Slash said, "Just heard about Jani Lane. What a shame. RIP man."
Lane was 47. No cause of death has been released.
