Jersey City Police Dept.

(CBS/WCBS/AP) NEW YORK - The family and friends of Shannan Gilbert, a missing New Jersey prostitute, held a vigil on Long Island marking the one-year anniversary of her disappearance Sunday. The investigation of Gilbert's case has led authorities to numerous human remains and speculation about a serial killer.

"I'm here to remember my daughter Shannan and to get the word out to help to find her and bring her home because we miss her and we love her and want her back," Mary Gilbert, Shannan's mother said to CBS station WCBS.

Family members and friends of Shannon left flowers and held a prayer vigil at the location where she was last seen one year ago running and crying out for help, reports the station.

The search for evidence in the suspected serial killer case was set to resume on Long Island on Monday.

Police uncovered 10 sets of human remains along a parkway near several beaches since December. Four of the bodies have been identified as other missing prostitutes.

Mary Gilbert said she holds out hope her daughter is still alive and that those responsible for the killings that have occurred will be found, reports the station.
