Vietnam War Recalled on "Amazing Race"

The "Amazing Race" had teams scrambling through Vietnam this week, bringing on a tearful remembrance from Marcy, whose father was shot down over Vietnam in 1968.

She was one of two contestants who took time from the race to honor their fathers.

The 60-year-old Marcy and her teammate, Ron, were the last to arrive at the pit stop - Reunification Palace - and were eliminated. An emotional Marcy told host Phil Keoghan about her father who was shot down while in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and later was rescued.

She later added, "My dad always used to say, 'You can't hit a homerun unless you step up to the plate.' And I think going on 'The Amazing Race' was stepping up to the plate."

Earlier in the show, Marcy commented on her father's wartime activities and remarked on the friendliness of the Vietnamese people. "The people are beautiful. It really does make one stop and feel emotional about all the people who died here," she said.

The other tribute came from Harlem Globetrotter Big Easy. He and his teammate Flight Time had to hustle at the end of the race and even ended up sprinting to the finish line, just ahead of Meghan and Cheyne. Later, Cheyne predicted this would not be the only sprint to the finish between these two teams.

"My dad just passed away and that's who I'm playing for so I gotta run hard," Big Easy said.

Keoghan later explained that Big Easy's father had died just two days before the race started. The two basketball players won a trip to Aruba for their first-place finish.

Big Easy and Marcy brought the tears, but bickering engaged couple Lance and Keri brought the laughs. Describing his team as lions among gazelles, Lance vowed to flight to the end.

He meant fighting against the other teams, but he could easily have meant fighting with his teammate as they argued over every decision they made. In the end, they came in just ahead of the Marcy and Ron, the losing team.
