Man shot after stopping to help driver who struck deer

FRUITLAND, Md. - Authorities on Maryland's Eastern Shore say a person was shot after stopping to help a man who had struck a deer with his vehicle, reports CBS Baltimore.

Police say the victim and two other witnesses had stopped in Fruitland to help the man, 18-year-old Kenny White, and that an argument ensued. Authorities say White then began firing a shotgun at the would-be Good Samaritan in the roadway. Pellets struck him twice below the torso, according to the station.

The victim was reportedly able to get back in his vehicle and a get a partial license plate number on the shooter. He returned to his home in Eden and called 911.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives recovered a shotgun and shotgun shells from White's home that matched shells found at the scene, reports CBS Baltimore.

White is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
