Veterans Day deals and give-aways
Many people confuse Veterans Day -- which is designed to honor the commitment and dedication of all veterans living and dead -- with Memorial Day, which honors those who have died. But American restaurants and retailers are not fooled. They're offering marvelous freebies to anyone willing to show a military identification this weekend.
Coupon Sherpa, which compiled a comprehensive listing of 35 fabulous freebies for Veterans, notes that many of the best give-aways are being offered by restaurants that promise to buy veterans a free meal.
Here are some of the best deals for military members past and present.
B&B for Vets is offering a free night's stay at any one of 485 participating Bed & Breakfasts on Nov. 11.
Anheuser-Busch, operators of Sea World, Busch Gardens and Sesame Place theme parks, are providing active duty, activated or drilling reservists and National Guardsmen with free admission to their theme parks for the military member and up to three dependents. Registration is required.
Knotts Berry Farm is holding military tribute days through Nov. 24, providing free admission to the military member and discounted admission for family.
McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant is giving away a free lunch or dinner entrée to veterans on Nov. 13th, their 13th Annual Veterans Appreciation event.
Denny's is giving away its Grand Slam breakfast to Veterans dining in on Nov. 11. Call ahead to find a participating location.
Chili's is offering a choice of one of six meals on a dine-in-only basis on Nov. 11 to active duty military members and veterans.
Hy-Vee, a 235-store retail chain, offers a free breakfast on Nov. 11 at all company stores.
Spaghetti Warehouse provides a buy-one and get a second meal for 11 cents on Nov. 11. Unlike the other deals, this is open to anyone who "likes" the site on Facebook and prints out a coupon. T.G.I. Friday's is also doing a buy one, get one free deal for veterans.
Texas Roadhouse will be hosting a free lunch for veterans and active duty military members on Friday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Golden Corral restaurants are providing free meals for Veterans on Monday, Nov. 14.
Veterans also eat free on Veterans day at Applebees.
Walgreensis providing a 15-20% discount for all veterans and active duty military personnel on Veterans day. Cabella's Outdoor Store is providing their employee discount, which ranges from 5% to 50%, to military members on Veterans weekend; while Macy's is providing a 10% to 15% discount to anyone who uses the code VET15.
