Teen sunbather dies after being run over in driveway

SYRACUSE, Utah - Marli Hamblin was listening to music, getting some sun and probably reveling in just having made the cheerleading team at Syracuse High School in Utah when tragedy struck.

While sunbathing in the driveway with her iPod in, a family member exited the garage in a Chevy truck and backed over her, reports CBS affiliate KUTV-TV in Salt Lake City.

The driver was her sister, who told investigators that she did not spot her sibling, police spokeswoman Erin Behm told the Chicago Tribune.

Officials have ruled the incident an accident and no charges have been filed.

"It's not an easy case for everybody involved--the officers, firemen, the paramedics," Behm, who was one of the first on scene, told KUTV. "You can imagine, it was tragic."

"There's just no words that can describe it or explain it at this point," added Lance Hamblin, Hamblin's cousin.

The third of five children, the 15-year-old Hamblin was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with a head injury, but died two days after the accident, which happened on Friday, KUTV-TV reports.

"Our precious Marli is home with her heavenly father. Please continue prayers of comfort for this family during this time," her family wrote on a Facebook page set up in tribute to Hamblin.

Family members say Marli was getting ready to start high school and had a lot going for her, including piano playing skills and her success at cheerleading.

"She's been working diligently to perfect her skills in that area," Ron Hamblin told KUTV-TV.
