· Democratic challenger, Scott Leckman is a Salt Lake City general surgeon in a private practice. He is in his second term as the Vice-speaker of the Utah Medical Association and is the President of the Salt Lake Surgical Society.
· In 1994, Leckman lost his bid for the Democratic nomination for Utah State Senate to Steve Poulton.
· Dr. Leckman has been working with RESULTS, an advocacy group working to end child hunger and poverty, since 1984. Today he sits on the organizationÂ's Board of Directors. With RESULTS, he founded the Child Survival Fund providing vaccine and basic primary health practices for children. Since 1984, he built the fund to $330 Million.
· ScottÂ's wife, Linda, is also a general surgeon;. The couple adopted two sons from India.
· In honor of LeckmanÂ's philanthropic contributions, he is the recipient of the Utah Medical AssociationÂ's Community Service Award.
· At the 1998 Utah Democratic Convention, Leckman walked through the crowd of 2,000 applauding delegates to "I Believe in Miracles."
· His campaign is focusing on managing the stateÂ's economy, growth, and natural resources.
