2 teens arrested for alleged attack on 16-year-old in Calif.
LAS FLORES, Calif. - Two teens have been arrested in the beating of a 16-year-old boy after video of the alleged attack was posted on Facebook, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Eighteen-year-old Robert Valentin Ayala and a 17-year-old boy whose name has not been released were arrested on May 21 in connection to the incident, which, according to the station, happened after school on May 20 on the playground of an elementary school in Orange County.
A 24-second video of the fight was posted to the "Ladera Ranch No Bullying" Facebook page, CBS Los Angeles reports. Ladera Ranch is a neighborhood in Orange County. In the video, the two suspects can be seen punching and kicking the unidentified victim in the head as he lay on the ground. The Facebook page states the victim "suffered a concussion and has no recollection of the event."
Officials said Ayala, the other suspect and the victim all go to Tesoro High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. CBS Los Angeles reports it is unclear what prompted the vicious attack.
"It's something that we will never tolerate and it's unfortunate this had to happen," said school district spokesman Stephen Nichols.
Ayala is being held on $50,000 bail, according to the station. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of felony aggravated assault and battery and is due back in court on July 15 for a pretrial hearing. Details on the minor suspect were not released.
