Two Indiana boys, ages 7 and 8, allegedly beat bus driver after being told to stop playing
(CBS/WBBM) MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - Two boys, ages seven and eight from Michigan City, are accused of savagely beating their bus driver and two bus aides last week.
Both are charged with battery for the alleged attack on bus driver Shaunda Gilbert and the aides, reports CBS Chicago.
The incident reportedly began after Gilbert told the boys to stop throwing a lanyard back and forth while on the way home from Springfield Elementary School.
CBS Chicago that one of the boys refused and "began to curse at her [the driver], calling her several derogatory names."
According to the station, the police report states Gilbert stopped the bus and one of the boys told her he was getting off. When she tried to block the door, the boy "shoved her down ... jumped on top of her while cursing and screaming ... pulling her hair violently... and slamming her head."
Two bus monitors that attempted to intervene were also attacked by the boys, CBS Chicago reports.
Police were called and sheriff's officers took the boys home, according to the station. The police report also says that the boys "did not allege they were struck or harmed by bus personnel."
"They both advised that they were mad because they had been asked to stop 'playing around,'" the report stated.
A school spokesperson reportedly said the boys will be disciplined.
