Two charged with kidnapping Ga. mom Holly Parker-Heard and newborn daughter
(CBS/WGCL/AP) MARIETTA, Ga. - Scott McDaniel and Rebecca Mclarty are under arrest in the disappearance of 27-year-old Holly Parker-Heard and her newborn daughter, who both turned up safe in different Georgia counties.
Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce says police were called on Saturday after the staff of a hotel in Georgia found blood-soaked linens in a room.
According to police, Mclarty helped Parker-Heard give birth in the motel room Saturday night. Then McDaniel and Mclarty, boyfriend and girlfriend, allegedly drove Parker-Heard to a home in Mableton, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. They then took the newborn baby girl to a home in Carrollton, about 50 miles outside of Atlanta, reports CBS affiliate WGCL.
Authorities in Carroll County say they found the 39-year-old Mclarty, who was the midwife for the birth, as well as the infant, on Monday. Pierce says Mclarty and the 42-year-old McDaniel, who was arrested Monday evening, are charged with kidnapping and cruelty to children.
The motive for the alleged kidnapping wasn't immediately clear.
Bail was set at $55,000 each for McDaniel and Mclarty, reports the station.
McDaniel was scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday morning.
The infant was taken to a hospital in Carrollton and was described as doing well, Pierce said.
