Twins Re-Sign Terry Steinbach

Terry Steinbach has reached an agreement with the Minnesota Twins on a one-year contract with about $1 million, the Star Tribune reported Sunday.

The 36-year-old catcher and Minnesota native turned down more money from the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox to remain in his hometown.

"I expect to be back with the Twins next season," Steinbach said.

Forum: Should Steinbach have left the Twins?

  • The official announcement is expected Monday after the Twins create an opening for the veteran catcher on their 40-man roster.

In October, the Twins rejected an option to re-sign Steinbach for 1999 at $2.25 million and used their option to buy out his contract for $500,000. Just a week later, Steinbach filed for free agency.

Steinbach batted .242 with 14 home runs and 54 RBIs last season.
