Tweet This: No Live Updates Allowed from Bill Clinton Speech
The commercial Internet got going in earnest during Bill Clinton's two terms in the White House. But when it comes to using some of those same Internet tools to report on the former president, there's a line being drawn.
Mr. Clinton is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech next month at a conference in San Francisco organized by software maker Salesforce.com. However, Clinton representatives don't want any live updates from the speech hitting the transom. The tech blog ReadWriteWeb received a memo from the outside public relations firm which represents Salesforce.com announcing the following mandate:
"PLEASE NOTE: President Clinton's representatives have mandated that there be absolutely no reporting during his session. That includes live blogging, Tweeting, Facebook posting or use of any other social media. We understand the inconvenience this may present, but greatly appreciate your compliance. Thank you."
A public relations representative for Salesforce.com had no comment on the former president's request. "We're only the messengers," the spokeswoman said.
Coincidentally, former Vice President Al Gore barred all press coverage of a speech he delivered at a technology conference, also in San Francisco, in 2008.
