Turning The Other Cheek

Missionary Jim Bowers says he has no desire to sue the United States or Peru in the deaths of his wife and daughter.

Veronica "Roni" Bowers, 35, and her 7-month-old daughter Charity were killed April 20, 2001 when the Peruvian Air Force fighter jet opened fire on their single-engine Cessna after mistaking it for a drug-smuggling flight.

Bowers dismissed recent reports that he and other victims of the attack are seeking $35 million dollars in compensation. He says the reports were embarrassing because they implied the survivors were trying to capitalize on the tragedy.

Bowers says he's received assurances from both the U.S. and Peruvian governments that they'll "care for us."
