Turn Your Nokia Smartphone into a Wi-Fi Hotspot
If you're a Nokia smartphone owner who went mad with jealousy over WMWifiRouter, the utility that turns Windows Mobile smartphones into go-anywhere Wi-Fi access points, here's good news: JoikuSpot Light promises the same capability for Symbian-based handsets.
Specifically, the software (very much in beta) should work with any device that runs the Symbian S60v3 operating system. That includes the Nokia E90, N95, and so on. Your model must also support 3G and Wi-Fi, natch. You can download JoikuSpot Light from the developer's site or install it directly to your phone via SMS (see the site for details). After a few simple setup steps, presto: You've got a Wi-Fi hotspot in your pocket, suitable for driving any Windows notebook (Mac and Linux systems may work as well, but the PDF manual doesn't mention them).
JoikuSpot Light is freeware! Alas, I don't have a Nokia smartphone with which to test it. If you do, please post your results in the Comments. Meanwhile, it's too bad there's no chance of a similar program for Palm Centros and Treos, which conspicuously lack Wi-Fi. Curse you, Palm! [via Need to Know Blog]
