TSA workers fired or suspended for gambling ring at Pittsburgh airport, report says

CBS Pittsburgh

(CBS) PITTSBURGH  - Dozens of Transportation Security Administration workers have been fired or suspended for their role in an illegal gambling ring at Pittsburgh International Airport, CS Pittsburgh reported..

The TSA says no one made big money, that no criminal charges filed, and also that none of the betting affected airport security.

Sources told CBS Pittsburgh that TSA employees set up an office betting pool of sorts, with employees betting year-round on all of the big sporting events, including the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, the World Series, the Stanley Cup and more.

The investigation reportedly took a few months. In announcing the disciplinary action Thursday, the TSA said in a statement that the agency "holds all of its employees to the highest standards of conduct and accountability," claiming it "has taken the appropriate and necessary steps to discipline those involved."

The station reports that five employees were recommended for termination, 47 for suspension and 10 received letters of reprimand.

Sources said the employees recommended for dismissal did "make a little money off of the top."

All of the employees will go through an official appeal process before they are formally suspended or terminated.
