Tough Mudder Challenges All Walks of Life
Are you tough enough to be a tough mudder - and take part in a one day challenge of running through mud, water and even fire?
It's billed as the toughest challenge on the planet and open to every adult willing and able to compete. Special contributor Taryn Winter Brill stopped by to talk to "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez about the Tough Mudder that puts a whole new meaning to the word, endurance.
According to Winter Brill, if you've ever wanted to take part in challenges like the ones you see on "Survivor" or "The Amazing Race," the Tough Mudder may just be for you, but be prepared to take on an entire season's worth of events in just one day.
The seven-and-a-half mile course features 17 obstacles with steep hills to climb, frigid waters to traverse, and of course plenty of mud to slow you down.
Patty "Boom-Boom" Alcivar, a professional boxer who wanted to add some splash to her workout, was on board with the Tough Mudder challenge right away.
"When I found this race I said I'm there, sign me up," she said. "This was by far one of the most crazy adventures I have ever done."
The plus behind the Tough Mudder is that a portion of the $100 entrance fee goes to support Wounded Warriors, an organization that helps soldiers injured in battle.
For brothers Aaron and Kevin King there is a lot of meaning behind the Tough Mudder. The two were both struck by rocket propelled grenades while serving in the military; Kevin in Afghanistan, Aaron in Iraq.
"To be able to be here and do this event is an honor," Kevin King said.
It took Aaron a year and a half of physical therapy just to get back on his feet. He's now running with his brother by his side.
"They said I'd never walk again...this means the world to me to be here right now," Aaron King added.
The course was designed by British Special Forces with U.S. Marines stationed at each obstacle to lend a helping hand. The Tough Mudder raised some $200,000 for Wounded Warriors.
