Top spots for turkeys in the U.S.

Not all turkeys in the U.S. will end up on the dinner table this Thanksgiving.
According to Trulia, your best chance of running across a turkey (one that's not being served up as a main dish) is in Roger Mills County, Okla.
In honor of Thanksgiving, online residential real estate site Trulia took a break from looking at where people live so it could check out where wild turkeys reside. Using data from the annual North American Breeding Bird Survey, Trulia found that you could encounter up to 29 wild turkeys in just 2.5 hours of walking around Roger Mills County.
And if you're in Kansas this Thanksgiving, you're truly in the turkey hot spot of the U.S., statistically speaking. "Among states, Kansas teems with more turkeys than any place else," Trulia said.
Trulia also revealed these fun wild turkey findings:
- Turkey counties. Counties in Oklahoma and Kansas dominate the top turkey counties in the U.S., securing eight of the top 10 spots.
- Turkey states. Turkeys seem to thrive in states located in America's heartland, including Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Missouri. Connecticut is the only coastal state included in the top 10 list.
- It's not just talk. It seems that self-proclaimed turkey-happy places like Berryville, Ark. ("turkey capital of Arkansas") and Barron, Wis. ("turkey capital of Wisconsin") are more than just talk. "Self-proclaimed 'turkey towns' are in or near areas that have populations of wild turkeys," Trulia said.
