Top MTV Award For Lauryn Hill (1999)
Everything seemed to go the right way for five-time Grammy winner Lauryn Hill, reports CBS News This Morning Co-Anchor Mark McEwen. Her slinky video for "Doo Wop (That Thing)" earned four video awards during MTV's Video Music Awards show Thursday night.
Hill won the night's big award, video of the year, and also won for best female video, best rhythm 'n' blues video and art direction.
Ricky Martin also dominated the awards - his hit "Livin' La Vida Loca" swept best dance and best pop video. He also won three international Viewers' Choice awards.
Dance artist Fatboy Slim won three awards for "Praise You." Korn's arresting "Freak on a Leash" video won two awards.
This year's ceremony, carried live on MTV, took place in the august Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.
Puff Daddy replaced Puccini and the Backstreet Boys elbowed out "La Boheme" at opera's epicenter. Instead of "Faust," the audience was treated to Kid Rock in a white fur coat and a dozen male Madonna impersonators, plus the real Madonna.
