Tinder CEO's sex life makes headlines ahead of IPO
Generally, a CEO divulging personal details about his private sex life is not the standard course of action before a company goes public. But Tinder is not just any company.
Just one day ahead of parent company Match Group's IPO filing, dating app Tinder's CEO Sean Rad gave an eyebrow-raising interview to the Evening Standard. He talked about the fact that he's had 20 sexual partners in his life, among other less than public relations-friendly comments.
In the interview, Rad said that he was "addicted" to his own app, and made other bizarre comments, at one point confusing the word "sodomy" with "sapiosexual," or a sexual attraction to a person's intelligence.
Rad's "head of communications was with him (during the interview) and said 'yeah this is okay to talk about.' This is not okay to talk about anywhere, especially on the eve of your IPO," CNET associate editor Dan Graziano told CBS News.
Graziano said that the timing of Rad's interview was strange given the fact that the time before the initial S-1 SEC filing and the official IPO is "a quiet time, and you don't want to do too much that will scare investors."
Match Group executives quickly tried to distance themselves from Rad's statements, asserting that Rad is "not on the executive team of the Match Group."
