Times Publishing Puts Congressional Quarterly On The Block

This story was written by Tameka Kee.

Political news service Congressional Quarterly (CQ) is now up for sale. Parent company Times Publishing Co. has retained JEGI to help shop the brand; the St. Petersburg, Fla.-based publisher says it wants to focus exclusively on properties located in Florida.

Founded in 1945, D.C.-based CQ got its start as CQ Weekly magazine, covering federal, state and local governmental activity; the company now garners most of its revenue digitally, through CQ.com. There is also CQ Politics, which covers the political landscape beyond Washington, D.C., as well as CQ Governing magazine. The company bought a trio of video services from FedNet in 2007, giving readers the ability to search through, share and be alerted about clips of new speeches, votes and other congressional activities. Release.
