Time running out on Red Bull lawsuit claims

Time is running out for Red Bull drinkers to get their piece of a class action lawsuit settlement over allegations that advertising misled consumers about the drink's safety and effectiveness.

Without admitting any wrongdoing, Red Bull North America Inc. agreed to a $13 million settlement. Those who file claims are eligible for a $10 refund or $15 worth of Red Bull products. Since the settlement is capped at $13 million, it is possible those payments could be reduced if too many consumers filed claims.

The deadline to file a claim is Monday. Claims can be filed through the official claims site set up by the law firm involved in the case.

No proof of purchase is necessary to document that you actually drank Red Bull or were misled by its product claims. However, you do have swear that you're telling the truth.

It could take a while before anyone receives a payment or gets their compensatory Red Bull products. A hearing is scheduled for May 1 to determine if the final settlement should be approved.

Under the initial settlement, Red Bull has 150 days from the time the final settlement is official to send out the compensation.

The lawsuit claimed that Red Bull conveyed through its advertising that it would provide users a bigger mental and physical boost than they could get through having a cup of coffee when there was no evidence to support that. The company said it settled the litigation to avoid the distraction and will continue to use its longstanding slogan "Gives You Wings."
