Tiger Woods Fires Agent

It's no longer business as usual for Tiger Woods , one of the world's most marketable athletes. Woods fired his agent Hughes Norton of International Management Group, despite the $150 million in endorsement deals Norton secured.

According to a report by Sports Illustrated's Jaime Diaz, Woods will now be represented by IMG's Mark Steinberg as well as Alastair Johnston, the head of IMG's golf division, during a "transitional period."

It was a personal decision for Woods, who felt over-committed by Norton. While Norton was fired, the agency itself extended its relationship with Woods past 2004.

According to Johnston, the change had been in the works for months and was necessary to accommodate the moratorium Woods placed on any new deals.

The Woods/Norton relationship was established when Tiger was 15-years-old. It was Norton who put together the monumental deal with Nike, reported to be worth more than $40 million when it was announced shortly after Woods turned professional in 1996.

For Norton, this is an all-too-familiar experience. In 1992, he was released by Greg Norman after representing the Shark for 11 years.
