This Week: A Series Of Tests

Whether it was a DNA test, a breathalyzer test, or merely a test of patience, celebrities were challenged in every possible way this week.

Anna Nicole Smith's baby Dannielynn was given a DNA test Wednesday, moving a step closer to solving the mystery of her paternity. Meanwhile, the Broward County Medical Examiner's office announced that the result of Smith's autopsy exam would be announced next Monday.

Actress Viveca A. Fox was arrested late Tuesday after failing a field sobriety test. Breathalyzer tests also indicated her blood-alcohol level was greater than .08 percent, the legal limit, authorities said.

Anna Nicole Smith: A Who's Who

Britney Spears is out of rehab, but her estranged husband Kevin Federline will retain custody of their two sons until she can prove she's able to provide a stable home for them.

Model Naomi Campbell's housekeeping skills were tested as she performed five days of community service at a New York City Sanitation Dept. garage this week. Her job sweeping offices and bathrooms was part of her sentence for assaulting her maid.

Adam Sandler tested his abilities as a talk show host when he stepped in for an ailing David Letterman to host "Late Show" Tuesday. Sandler managed to handle the monologue, do a few interviews — including one with his bulldog Matzoball — and even did a duet of "Endless Love" with his "Reign Over Me" co-star, Don Cheadle.

"American Idol" finalist Sanjaya Malakar is testing the patience of many music fans who wonder why he remains on the show when better singers have been voted off. The mop-topped singer won enough votes Wednesday to stay on the show for another week and a Web site that encourages people to vote for the show's worst finalist is claiming victory.

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen won't be buying a pregnancy test in the near future because, she says, she's not planning a family. It was rumored that she was pregnant with boyfriend Tom Brady's child, but she says she's just too busy to have a child right now.

It isn't easy to start a whole new life at age 3, but Angelina Jolie's newly adopted son Pax seems to be passing the test with flying colors. Jolie says that the 3-year-old from Vietnam is very strong, adding that "he is a very serious, very sweet little boy."

Heather Mills McCartney had two tests to pass when she debuted on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" Monday. Can she dance on an artificial leg and, more importantly, can participating on the hit show help her shake her gold digger image? She won praise from the judges for her foxtrot, but whether the estranged wife of Paul McCartney will win love from the public remains to be seen.

If there were an exam that rated loveable TV oddballs, actor Calvert DeForest would have definitely gotten an "A." Deforest appeared as Larry "Bud" Melman on David Letterman's talk shows on both NBC and CBS from 1992 until 2000. DeForest died in New York Monday at the age of 85. Letterman gave him the best grade of all when he released a statement saying, "Everyone always wondered if Calvert was an actor playing a character, but in reality he was just himself — a genuine, modest and nice man."
