Thieves steal $1 million in gold, jewels from Wash. store
PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Police say it took sophisticated burglars to steal about $1 million worth of jewelry and gold from a business in Puyallup, Washington.
According to the News Tribune, police were called to local business Gold Definitions on Monday and found that burglars had cut several holes in the roof of a complex that houses the jewelry store and other businesses. Then they lowered themselves into two stores neighboring Gold Definitions.
Once inside, police say the intruders removed sections of walls that led them in to the jewelry store.
They also cut away a portion of the wall that gave them access to a large safe containing more than $1 million in jewelry and gold.
The News Tribune reports that police say the stolen jewelry included items the store purchased as well as items customers brought in to be repaired or appraised.
From surveillance footage, police believe the entire weekend operation took roughly four hours.
Detective Mike Lusk says the store does have insurance to compensate victims.
