The Wanted's Nathan Sykes takes hiatus from boy band

Fans of The Wanted received some bad news on Wednesday.

A representative for the Irish-British boy band announced that Nathan Sykes has been forced to temporarily leave the group.

"We can confirm that The Wanted's Nathan Sykes will under go [Sic] specialist throat surgery on Thursday April 18 in Los Angeles and as such will be taking an unforeseen hiatus form The Wanted," the group's publicist said in a statement, according to the Daily Mail. "The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible."

On Tuesday, Sykes posted a one-word message on his Twitter account, "Gutted."

Founded in 2009, The Wanted rose to fame in 2010 with their self-titled debut album. The act is perhaps best known for their 2011 hit, "Glad You Came."

The group is currently in the midst of filming a reality TV series for the E! network.

Sykes, 19, will reportedly not be able to speak or sing for a month following his surgery on Thursday.
