This shows the log of real gross private domestic investment along with the estimated trend for the series (estimated as a simple linear trend using quarterly data from 1947:1 through 2010:3). Even though investment has turned the corner, there is still a sizable gap between our current position and the trend line. By this measure, as well as most any other you look at, we still have a long way to go.
