The Incredibly Shrinking Scandal?
It was just a week or so ago that The New York Times looked to be heading smack-dab into yet another round of journalistic hand-wringing over its decision to hold the NSA-eavesdropping story for a year before deciding to publish the account. After an initial flurry of outrage – including some tough words from the paper's own Public Editor – the issue, and questions, have dropped off the radar screen.
This week the progressive media group FAIR is the lone voice still asking for answers, trying to revive the issue and urging concerned readers to contact The Times. As highly charged as this entire issue is, the lack of discussion about The Times' decision-making process is a little surprising. Will we ever get answers to those 35 questions Barney Calame has for his paper?
